Derek Benfield, the son of a journalist, was born in Bradford. When Wild Goose Chase was
produced in London in 1954, it marked the beginning of run of hilarious hits. Post
Horn Gallop, Running Riot and Off The Hook were performed by The
Players in the '60s and '70s.
As well as writing for radio, Derek Benfield is also a successful actor, being well
known for his role of Bill Riley in the BBC series The Brothers and more recently
as Patricia Routledge's husband in Hetty Wainthrop Investigates.
