A musical in three acts.
THE STORY begins with the return of Ramon and his bandits
to El Rancho Grande. On Mendoza's orders they have robbed a
stagecoach containing an American Senator and daughter Lucille
in order to find money to finance their revolution against the
Presidente. The festivities are marred by the arrival of Lopez,
the chief of police and his assistant, Bernado, who ironically
directed the victims of the hold-up to El Rancho Grande. Lucille
becomes a rival for Raquelita, Ramon's fiancee, and creates
jealousy amongst the other girls, especially Lola. She, on discovering
Ramon with Lucille, conspires with Lopez to murder Ramon at
the Aztec ceremony.
During this time, Pablo and Pepe, Ramon's comical bandits,
are ordered to find a cheque which the senator was taking to
El Presidente; they do this with some difficulty.
At the ceremony, things do not go as planned. News arrives of a new Presidente's takeover and so Mendoza's revolution is no longer necessary. Lopez's authority is undermined, Bernado is promoted and other problems eventually resolve themselves.
