[ Note
It is sad to chronicle here that Derek Allcock, one of Players most active members, died during the rehearsal period.
At Derek's wife's request, the show went on and the part of Brother Joshua was played by Stephen.
The photographs, taken during rehearsal, include Derek, an affectionate tribute to a great character.

Programme Notes       [ Photographs ]

Together, Rodgers and Hammerstein have given the theatres of the world the musical plays that changed the idea of entertainment. Time after time, in one musical comedy after another, they have astounded and delighted audiences with their superb theatre, delightful songs and the sentiment of their stories.

Rodgers, working with Lorenz Hart, wrote Garrick Gaieties, A Connecticut Yankee, The Girl Friend to name a few. Hammerstein collaborated with Jerome Kern, Sigmund Romberg, Otto Harbach, Rudolph Friml, Vincent Youmans, Herbert Stohart and George Gershwin. Among his works with earlier partners are Show Boat, Rose Marie and The Desert Song.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein partnership was founded with Oklahoma followed by the musical you are about to see, Carousel. South Pacific, The King And I, and The Sound Of Music are some of their other familiar works. As producers, they sponsored Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun and a revival of Showboat.
