Since joining in 1981, I have acted in 12 productions, directed 3 plays and can't remember how many times I've been in the backstage team. Directing was the hardest job but very rewarding until the first public performance when there is little to do. I played a butler in Rebecca. On the last night I waited alone on stage to instruct a maid who didn’t arrive. Eventually I ran off-stage to the dressing room. The Vicar described my expression on leaving as sheer panic. A friend’s 18 year old son still enthuses about the first stage comedy he saw, Players It Runs in the Family.
